The Hypercar Pagani Huayra R Will Surprise You

Pagani Automobili S.p.A. is an Italian manufacturer of sports cars and carbon fiber components. The company was founded in 1992 by the Argentinian Horacio Pagani and is based in San Cesario sul Panaro, near Modena, Italy.

Now, the Italian company Pagani is preparing a new version of the V-12 supercar and it’s going to be the most extreme iteration yet. It’s called the Huayra R and it’s still somewhat of a mystery. Pagani just released a sound sample of its V-12 engine and it’s one of the best sounding supercars out there!

Huayra R, a successor to the track-only Zonda R, will debut on November 12. Huayra R will feature a bespoke, all-motor V-12 developed by AMG and HWA. The Huayra Imola's twin-turbo V12, also courtesy of AMG, has 827 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque. According to The Supercar Blog, citing "sources close to Pagani," this new NA V12 was built in collaboration with motorsport specialists HWA AG, the same firm that developed the Apollo IE's V12, which has a 6.3-liter NA V12 with 780 hp and 560 lb-ft. But the Huayra R's V12 is rumored to make over 900 hp and revs to over 9,500 rpm. It's also said to produce a "diabolic" sound."The latter is a racing specialist that builds components for Mercedes-AMG and manages the brand’s DTM and Formula E efforts, while also running Formula 2 and Formula 3 teams.

Like the Zonda R, chances are the Huayra R won't be street legal but will be used to preview various new technologies the Huayra's unnamed successor will feature. It'll supposedly offer both V12 and battery-electric options, and that engine will, once again, be twin-turbocharged.

Just like its predecessor, the Zonda R, the Huayra R will be a track-day car with a more aggressive body kit, an integrated roll cage, and a motorsport-style dashboard. It will use more lightweight components and materials than any other Huayra and will tip the scales at around 2,400 pounds. Only a handful of units will be built and each will cost in excess of $2 million.

It appears that the Huayra R's V12 will be a one-off. We can hardly wait.
