Kate Middleton Engagement and her Ring

Prince William and Kate Middleton announced their engagement on November 16, 2010. The prince proposed during a vacation to Kenya, presenting Kate with the engagement ring worn by his mother, Princess Diana; Prince Charles and Diana following their engagement in 1981.  

The ring, made by crown jeweller Garrard, features a 12-carat oval Ceylon sapphire set in white gold and surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds. The ring was reportedly inspired by a brooch created in 1840 for Prince Albert as a wedding present for Queen Victoria, which she wore on her wedding day as her “something blue.” The design is now available for anyone to buy at Garrard. "It’s beautiful—I hope I look after it! It’s very special," Middleton said in the couple’s official engagement interview. 

Middleton’s Cartier Halo tiara

Best Known as a Kate Middleton’s wedding tiara. Cartier Halo tiara is made of platinum, 739 brilliant-cut diamonds and 149 baton diamonds. Its names comes from its shape (a halo) and its maker. The headpiece originally purchased and gifted by King George VI to the Queen Elizabeth who then passed it down to Queen Elizabeth II on her 18th birthday.

The Duchess had the honour of wearing the Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara in 2015, Princess Diana sported frequently with the very same tiara.

The earrings were reportedly a wedding gift from Collingwood jewellers to Kate Middleton's late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. Kate Middleton wore the pearl and diamond drop jewels for the first time in 2017 and was spotted wearing them in October 2018 to a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace. The duchess donned the earrings for a third time to attend the Queen's annual garden party at Buckingham Palace in May 2019.

The Duchess was also gifted a pair of sapphire and diamond earrings from Princess Diana’s personal collection by Prince William following their engagement. Middleton then had the gift that matched her engagement ring customized into a pair of drop earrings.

Three-strand pearl bracelet created by Jewellery designer Nigel Milne in 1988 belonged to Princess Diana. Princess Diana used to combine it with her iconic “Elvis” dress.
