Bitcoin Enthusiast Installs Crypto Mining Rig in Hybrid BMW Sports Car

With a luxury sports car US crypto user has found a new way to mine digital currencies. The user, who owns the BMW i8 sports car, turned his car’s trunk into a compact mining setup powered by the cars own hybrid-electric power system.

Mining crypto currencies is one of many different ways to obtain digital coins. However, it may also be one of the most complicated and expensive ways. The mining rigs tend to be expensive, require a lot of electricity and computing power, extremely powerful cooling systems, and more.

The Bitcoin entrepreneur Simon Byrne who has made a fortune off the crypto currency owns the crypto mining rig on wheels. He’s the same guy who went viral on the internet last month for building one of the craziest mining farms made of 78 PNY GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards. It is said to be capable of generating a profit of $128,088 per year. Just in case you aren’t aware of it, GeForce RTX 3080 is Nvidia’s flagship GPU, and there’s a huge shortage of supply in the market with gamers across the world eagerly waiting for the graphic card to be restocked. No doubt gamers won’t be thrilled.

Byrne One day decided to turn his car into a mining rig, so he created a system that consists of six Nvidia RTX 3080s graphics cards, which can be used to mine Ethereum while driving. The crypto-miner said that he’s trying to build a cryptocurrency ‘utopia’.

The rig is powered by the car’s own battery, although the process can still lead to overheating, which is why the trunk needs to remain open.

The car, worth approximately $150,000 has a Nevada license plate that says “HODLER,” which is a crypto community’s term for those who do not sell their coins, but hold (HODL) them.

The i8 can output up to 3500W from its main outlet, and the rig needs 1500W to run. It is equipped with a relatively small 7.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and has a combined output of 369 horsepower. The sportscar is also quite popular with car enthusiasts as it can accelerate to 100 km/hr in 4.4 seconds. However, there’s an issue. The lid has to remain open, or else the whole thing overheats.
