Partners With Free Diving Champ Guillaume Nery, Panerai presents a new professional Submersible watch

Panerai unveils a new member of its Submersible family – one inspired by Guillaume Nery. He is a French free-diving world champion, specialized in deep diving. With just one breath, he can dive to -126m below the water's surface. As a multiple world record holder and the double reigning world champion, Guillaume's goals go well beyond the simple realm of sport. The former professional athlete has broken four constant weight free-diving world records. Considered to be one of the world’s best free diving athletes, Nery demonstrates a style and grace many others aspire to achieve.

After suffering from a near-death experience and accompanying lung injury in 2015, Nery retired from competing. Now, Nery curates beautiful underwater films with his wife, who is also a free diver.

The collaboration between Panerai and Guillaume Nery originated from their shared passion for the sea. In celebration of this partnership, Panerai presents a new professional Submersible watch that combines performance, strength and reliability, holding the ability to face any challenge, above and under sea level. In Nery’s honour, the new Panerai Submersible Chrono Guillaume Nery Edition encapsulates the spirit of the remarkable champion who has inspired this new creation of mechanical engineering.

The Italian watchmaking brand traces the roots of the Submersible back to the L’Egiziano model made for the Egyptian Navy in the 1950s. In the honor of the world champion, the new Panerai Submersible Chrono Guillaume Nery Edition combines technical performance with a powerful, sporty appearance.

Water-resistant to a depth of 748 metres (30 bar), the underwater watch is fitted with Panerai’s personalized blue rubber strap that can weather the elements. Exceptionally durable, this watch is fitted with a unidirectional rotating bezel to track the duration of the dive. The luminous white markers, legible even in complete darkness, contrasts against the shark-grey, textured background. The champion’s signature and depths of his final inspiring record completes this exceptional timepiece.

Beneath the ultra light Titanium case that complements the blue ceramic inlaid disc perfectly, lays a precision chronograph. This chronograph features a with fly-back function and a device for zeroing the seconds hand to enable perfect synchronisation with a reference signal. Powered by the automatic mechanical P.9100 caliber, made in-house by Panerai, the watch offers 72 hours of power reserve. The movement was entirely developed in Panerai’s high quality watchmaking Manufacture in Neuchâtel, in the Laboratorio di Idee. The Luminor Marina 44mm Guillaume Nery Edition is priced at £17,100 (about $24,000).
