Harley-Davidson Launches Electric Bicycle

Harley-Davidson, the iconic American premium motorcycle manufacturer, is entering the electric bicycle market and plans to bring its first line of products to market in spring 2021. The company has named the early electric cycle as Serial 1.

The bike comes with white tires, leather saddle, handgrips and a thin black frame. Inspired by the Harley-Davidson models from 1903, the first electric bicycle was introduced.

The first e-bicycles from the Serial 1 bicycle company will go on sale in March 2021. E-Bicycles offer a combination of pedal-assisted bicycle and electric power. The brand's Serial 1 name is derived from "Serial Number One", the nickname for the oldest known motorcycle by Harley-Davidson. The e-Cycle brand is reportedly being launched as a project under Harley-Davidson's Product Development Center. According to Harley-Davidson, the pedal assist electric bicycle company is being launched amid a booming e-bike industry fueled by growing demand in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The global e-bicycle market was estimated to be over $15 billion in 2019 and projected to grow at an annual rate of more than 6% from 2020 to 2025.

Harley-Davidson had presented the designs of three e-bikes in the summer of 2019, one of which is very similar to the e-bike that Serial 1 is now presenting. On the frame of the Serial 1 bike you can now still see the lettering “Powered by Harley-Davidson”.

Aaron Frank, Brand Director for Serial 1 Cycle Company said this sector is “at the forefront of a global mobility revolution” He explained that the formation of the new company to focus entirely on electric bicycles enables Harley Davidson to play a key role while letting the new company focus entirely on electric bike customers. “The moment is right for e-bikes, Frank says. “Lithium-ion batteries are getting better, they’re getting lighter, they’re getting more reliable and they’re getting less expensive.”
