World’s First Gold-Plated Hotel Opens In Vietnam Amid Pandemic

In the middle of the coronavirus pandemic and with its borders closed since March, Vietnam this year has inaugurated in its capital, Hanoi, the world's first hotel with its gold-plated walls, the only one of its kind, which took 11 years to build. Billed as Southeast Asia's most luxurious hotel, it sits by Giang Vo Lake, in the centre of the Vietnamese capital.
The Dolce by Wyndham Hanoi Golden Lake hotel, which received a certificate from the International Union of Records that also accredits it as the world’s first gold-plated hotel with gold-plated tiles, has 120,000 square meters of its facade of bricks covered with the precious metal.
As detailed by the owner of the hotel, Nguyen Huu Duong, much of the interior of the establishment is also bathed in gold, such as the bathtubs, sinks, shower and toilet in some rooms and the shower area next to the pool.
In addition, the elevator doors are made of five tons of gold, a display with which the hotel aims to become "the most luxurious in the world," according to the owner.
Those who get peckish will have a choice of three restaurants in the hotel; top chefs will serve up decadent meals on 24K-Gold plated dining ware (nothing else would be as fitting). For something pretty unique, the menu also includes a 24K Golden Tomahawk Steak (covered in golden flakes rather than made of solid gold - that would not make for a tasty meal!).

Duong explained that his company, Hoa Binh, wanted to have the hotel open for the Formula One Grand Prix that was to be held this year in the capital of the communist country and that it was finally canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The prices start at £250 a night for rooms ranging to a cool £5,200 per square metre for one of their apartments. And a stay in the hotel's executive suite will set you back £800 per night.
The 400-room, 25-storey property is operated by the American Wyndham Hotels brand.
