This Super Intelligent Puppy Sells For £27,000 At Auction And Becomes World's Most Expensive Sheepdog

A young border collie puppy called Kim commanded for £28,455 ($38,893; including buyer's premium) at an online auction organized by Farmers Marts in Dolgellau, Gwynedd, Wales, UK, on 3 February 2021 just days before her first birthday. The hammer price before the 5% premium was added was £27,100 ($37,040) which makes Kim, world's most expensive sheep dog. Kim was reared and trained by farmer and sheepdog triallist Dewi Jenkins (UK) of Talybont, near Aberystwyth, and was purchased by E Vaughan from Staffordshire, UK.

Kim trainer Welsh farmer Dewi Jenkins, 28, said the talented pup is able to perform tasks solo after a single demonstration.

And she can already gather entire herds of sheep and cattle single handedly while out of her owner's sight at his family farm in Talybont.

She is now going on to control Texel sheep with her new owner at a farm in Newcastle.

The sale also beats Dewi's personal record for border collie Tyngraig Jet which sold for £12,000 in July.

Dewi said: "Kim is holding the two records now. She is brainy and very, very intelligent.

"When we began training, she was so clever I only had to show her how to do something once and by the second time, she knew what I wanted.

"For any farmer anywhere, she would do the job for them. It's incredible.

"To top it off, she is the right colour too. Red is very fashionable at the moment.

"It still has not sunk in properly. It is a good feeling but I am just happy that Kim has found an excellent, loving home."

Dewi grew up working with sheepdogs to manage sheep at cattle at Tynygraig Farm, a family owned business in Talybont, near Aberystwyth.

He is now passionate about training sheepdog in his spare time.

The Welsh speaker trains his dogs in English which means they can be sold to farmers worldwide including the UK, France, Belgium, Norway, and even the USA.

He said: "It is a passion of mine and I enjoy it. When you see a dog getting better every day, you are looking forward to the next time to take it to the next level."

Kim came to live with Dewi at eight weeks old and was able to gather a field of sheep while out of sight before her first birthday.

She also works independently in the pens and even guides sheep out of stock trailers.

What makes this sale even more incredible is Kim's young age, with the hammer falling just one day prior to her turning one year old. However, Mr. Jenkins said that Kim's super intelligence and experience was more akin to a three-year-old sheepdog.
