Paris Olympic 2024: Flying Taxis Will Fly Spectators To The Stadium To Tackle The Crowd On The Streets In The Olympics
The French government has already started preparations for the 2024 Olympic games. The Paris administration is planning everything from roads to traffic control and stadium security. According to officials, the streets of Paris will be quite crowded during the Olympics. To deal with this, tourists coming from abroad will be taken directly from the airport via air taxi to the site of the games.
Currently, it takes an hour for common people to reach the main part of the city from Paris by Charles de Gaulle Airport by bus or train. The planning of Airbus, Aeroportes de Paris (ADP) company and the local transport administration RATP were successful, tourists would be flown by flight taxi to their destination only after stopping on the runway.
According to Edward Arkwright, executive director of the ADP Company, worldwide population is projected to go up sharply in the next 5 to 10 years. In such a situation, low altitude (low altitude) aircraft can be used as passengers all the time.
Airbus introduced a prototype of its vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) machines at an air show in Paris last year. As per recent news the 'Flying taxis' will start taking off from an aerodrome north of Paris from June, operators said, in a trial ahead of a vast tourist influx for the 2024 Olympics.
According to a joint announcement by the Île-de-France region, airports operator Groupe ADP and the RATP public transport agency, the experiment will take place at the Pontoise-Cormeilles-en-Vexin aerodrome some 90 minutes northwest of the capital.
A drone-like, fully-electric vertical take-off and landing vehicle (VTOL) dubbed VoloCity, produced by German company Volocopter, was chosen for the innovative trial with flying taxis in a peri-urban area, they said.
The experiment will depend on the approval of residents, security protocols and air traffic regulations, said the companies.
In the first half of 2021, arrangements will be made for parking areas, recharging stations and ground markings for the demonstration.
Initially, an investment of around 1 crore Euros (78.6 crore rupees) will be made on this project. The administration has planned to provide taxi facility to all the tourists coming to the Olympics every six minutes.
