BMW PGA Championship: Tyrrell Hatton Wins His First PGA Tour Title At Wentworth Golf Club

The 28-year-old England’s Tyrrell Hatton is an English professional golfer who plays on the European Tour and the PGA Tour. He added a fifth European Tour title to his collection after winning the BMW PGA Championship by four shots at Wentworth Club on 11th Oct 2020 which is also his third Rolex Series win.

In his career he won five times on the European Tour including three Rolex Series events, the 2017 Italian Open, the 2019 Turkish Airlines Open and the 2020 BMW PGA Championship. He also won the 2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational on the PGA Tour. He played in the winning 2018 Ryder Cup team.

Heading into the final round with a three-stroke lead Hatton kept a strong hold by shooting a final-round 67 for a 19-under total on the West Course.

Victor Perez of France finished at second spot after a 68, while Andy Sullivan and Patrick Reed secured T3 by finishing a further stroke back. Other U.K. favorites golf players Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry and David Horsey plummeted nine spots to T-13 after they each carded a disappointing 73.

Hatton once visited Wentworth Golf Club as a five-year old boy with his father, sparking a boyhood dream of one day winning the European Tour’s flagship event. Now, the dream has become reality.

Home favourite Tyrrell Hatton who entered the week 20th in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. He has since ascended to seventh in the Race to Dubai and cracked the third victory at a Rolex Series event. And now he is set to move into the top 10 in the world for the first time when the rankings are updated on Monday just two days before his 29th birthday.

Hatton is keeping everything in perspective, which shared a heartwarming post-round moment with his parents over video chat.

Hatton said, "This was a goal of mine to win this tournament but part of me is sad I didn't get to experience the crowds, but it's also just amazing to win this trophy."

“The European Tour’s done a great job,” he said. “We’re all very thankful to be able to play golf during these tough times, and I’m delighted that I can be their champion this week.”
