This May be the World's Most Expensive Christmas Tree, Decked With $15 Million of Jewels
Christmas Season is here—or as we like to call it, the most wonderful time of the year. It is the season not only of rejoicing but of reflection. People spend time with family and relax after a busy year.
For some, it is also a time of Extravagance.
This Christmas the visitors to the Marbella’s Kempinski Hotel Bahia, nestled along Spain’s southern coast will be treated to the sight of the hotel's tree, decked out with diamonds, precious stones and designer jewelry.
Decorated with red, white, pink and black diamonds, the 19ft tree, designed by Debbie Wingham, is worth a staggering £11.9 million ($15 million), according to the hotel.
Celebrity artist Debbie Wingham spent a month making over 500 decorations by hand. The tree is embellished with upcycled jewellery from Bvlgari, Cartier, Van Cleef, Arpels and Chanel, 3D-printed chocolate peacocks, feathers, ostrich eggs, bottles of perfume as well as diamonds.
Debbie claims her tree smashes the current record for the world's most expensive Christmas tree. It is currently under 24/7 security at the hotel on southern Spain’s Costa del Sol.
The previous record was reported to be a $11.4million (then £7million) sparkler displayed at The Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi in 2010.
The Kempinski's festive fir is the latest in a short but very sparkly line of decadently decorated trees.
And if you should happen to book a stay at the Kempinski, you can expect everything else to be just as luxe. Beyond the dazzling suites and expansive pools, the hotel is hosting a Diamond and Champagne Night on December 28th where guests have the opportunity to enjoy a decadent cocktail menu and meal by Chef David Fernandez. The chance to win a diamond valued at €2,000 just sweetens the deal––and ties in with the decor.
