After independence, Jag Niwas did transform into a half-abandoned palace even if royal heirs attempted to renovate it several times. Finally, in 1971, Taj Hotels took the management of the palace starting its renovation as a modern hotel. Back in 2000, the Lake Place underwent its second massive restoration. It became a luxury hotel with total 83 rooms and suites.
